Yes: Nitrites are an indication of certain type of bacteria (gram negative commonly e. Coli), but other bacteria may not cause a urinalysis to be nitrite positive. Urine culture is the definitive way to diagnose a uti, and you should follow with your physician for diagnosis and possible treatment if UTI identified.
