How do you tell if its blood in your stool or something you ate?

It is different: Blood in stools can either be red in which case it is not difficult to tell because no food looks like pure red blood. But blood can also turn stools in tarry black and the only thing that can give you black stools besides blood, is taking iron tablets or having used peptobismol.
