Nerve Injury: Superior gluteal nerve injury may occur as a result of injections to the buttock, hip surgery, pelvic or hip fractures. A patient would demonstrate a drop of the hip while walking on the uninjured side. The gluteus medius and gluteus maximus muscles innervated by the superior gluteal nerve are important for pelvic stability.
