Do alergy pills work for swollen tonsils?

Swollen tonsils: Swollen tonsils are typically from infection or an active immune system. Allergies can cause swelling in the mouth and throat, but the tonsils are often spared. Allergy pills would only be effective if the swelling were specifically from allergies, like angioedema. Steroids would be more effective in this circumstance. If the tonsils are swollen from infection, we would treat with antibiotics.

No: None of the medications has been shown to reduce tonsil size. There is some animal studies showing that singulair (montelukast) may have some effect in reducing tonsil size -not fda approved. For this condition however.
