MD exam and MMG: You need an examination by a gynecologist or a breast specialist, and most likely also some form of imagining (like mammogram and/or ultrasound). Because effective management of breast cancer is based on early diagnosis you cannot discount breast symptoms at any age.

Work up needed: Any sensation of hard or solid tissue in breast should be investigated. After 35, most insurances will cover a baseline mammogram, and this along with a sonogram will be helpful to see what you are feeling. A sonogram will help differentiate between a solid or cystic mass.
