What could cause this? bad pain left buttock. right leg turned outward. no pain in leg. worse walking, standing.feels like something crawling on leg.

Not clear: The pain is located on the left but the right leg is turned out- this may be an adaptive response to the left buttock pain. I assume the crawling sensatioin is on the left and standing/walking makes it worse. If correct you may be dealing with sciatica. I would suggest seeing your primary for referral to a pain specialist for further evaluation.
