Yes, and No: Not really. The swelling or infection surrounding a tooth will sometimes give a red to purple zone that can and usually does bleed easily. Dark spots can appear in different sizes and locations for various reasons. Let us know the size, area effected and the length of time that they have been seen. That will help to solve your mystery.

Likely not infection: Dark coloration can occur when a silver, or amalgam filling is adjacent the soft tissue of the mouth. If it is sore, or changes size, shape or color get it checked by a health care provider.
