Often: Methylprednisolone is a steroid. Steroids are powerful anti-inflammatories. They decrease inflammation.

If there is acute : Increase in your symptoms, then that is a good medication for a short-term basis. Up to 6 days or so at most (if you are using like a Medrol (methylprednisolone) dosepak). Not a good medication for longer time use. Focus on nsaids (if okay with your doctor), pt with some cervical traction. If these fail epidural injection can be tried, and or surgery. Treatments only if you have symptoms.
