After delivery of the placenta, what are we looking for and why?

FullRemoval Placenta: Since placenta is an interface of dense capillaries surrounded by high maternal blood flow, remnants of the placenta left within the uterus commonly result in maternal bleeding, sometimes massive, within the first few days after delivery; sometimes stopped/masked by uterine contraction shortly after delivery. Additionally, tears of the uterus or vaginal canal into rectal vault > big problems, etc.
