Stop smoking: It is a little known fact that 65% of smokers get depression. I would recommend a trial on wellbutrin under your doctor's supervision. Fewer side effects than effexor, (venlafaxine) no withdrawal, and knocks out smoking cravings quite well. Why not kill two birds with one stone?

SEE PSYCHIATRIST: Usually one starts with ssri - there are several. If one doesn't work (after titrating up from low dose) another might. If not, try snri. And then there are other choices. Wellbutrin (bupropion) is one. But this is to be done with guidance of a psychiachiatrist. If you think you need meds, things are not well. Time to start.
