A member asked:

How long does it take for acute myeloid leukemia to develop?

Mutations accumulate: AML results from accumulation of mutations in clones of cells. There's no doubt that the process takes many years, but the disease itself usually erupts suddenly as an acute illness. Or AML may supervene on another myeloproliferative disorder of some type while it's under care.

It's a type of : Bone marrow cancer. Bm produced stem cells or precursor for white blood cells(wbc), red blood cells and platelets. In AML the myeloid produce a myeloblast (immature and abnormal wbc). Also rbc's and platelets can become abnormal. When this happen infection, anemia and easy bleeding can happen. More common in adults. Symptoms appear/diagnosis done, disease is there. Talk to your parents.

It is really: Hard to tell accurately but it is pretty fast . As the name indicate , people with the condition are diagnosed when they develop one of the catastrophic symptoms. In general the development is pretty acute and progression is fast unless treated aggressively
