A member asked:

I have my second dementia patient with greatly elevated arsenic on heavy metal screen and years of toxin exposure. have any dr to refer me to?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

MY OPINION: Have encountered this on occasion, and in many cases, arsenic elevation turned out to be secondary to dietary intake, not the cause of pathology. Most arsenic exposures of consequence will have a painful peripheral neuropathy, not dementia as presenting sign. Regardless, if you have doubled checked including analysis of hair and urine, toxicologist is next. ?Do these pts. Eat strange items?
