Why you need insulin: Dm1 results because body can't make insulin, possibly due to a viral infections destroying the insulin-producing cells of pancreas, thus Insulin must be given. Little genetic compoment. Dm2 has a high genetic component and is related to Insulin resistance. Fat make body more resistant and the pancreas "tires out" trying to compensate. Diet, exercise, meds, later Insulin usually treat.
