Yes but: Yes but with early diagnosis and regular care and adherence to prescribed therapy by a pediatric pulmonologist the long term survival has improved greatly in the past two decades.
Dr. James Ferguson

We all die: CF has a variety of traditional gene expressions and sub forms. Proper surveylance and treatment has increased the expected lifespan of patient by decades in the past 30 years. Life is certainly different for the involved patient & their families, but the reality is life can be full with this dx.
Dr. Karl Muench
Clinical Genetics 61 years experience
Yes.: Although the complications of cystic fibrosis are treatable, and although the available treatments are helpful, the disorder shortens the normal life expectancy.
Dr. James Ferguson
Pediatrics 46 years experience
Life is different: 100% of people die. People with this condition have a variable life expectancy and face many more problems than the average person. Life includes close collaboration between docs at home and a specialty center. Life includes school, a profession, and many of the same challenges everyone else has. Whether they die in a car crash at 30 or from complications of the disease at 50, they do live a life.

Can childbirth cause maternal death?

Dr. Megan Bird
Obstetrics and Gynecology 19 years experience
Yes: Unfortunately, childbirth can still cause death. This is usually from bleeding, general anesthesia or stroke. Your best bet to reduce this risk is to start your pregnancy healthy. Eat a balanced diet, exercise and control any medical problems you do have. Nothing can take the risk to zero but you would be surprised how much you can do!

Do people die from cfs?

2 doctor answers8 doctors weighed in
Dr. Ed Friedlander
Pathology 44 years experience
Probably not: Unlike many other physicians, i believe that chronic fatigue syndrome is real, and an immune disturbance due to some unknown virus or viruses. However, if people were dying of it, we'd almost certainly recognize some characteristic lesion. If you have cfs, good luck -- it generally remits after a while, and low-dose antidepressants and/or simply practicing new life skills seems to help some.

Do people die from myositis?

2 doctor answers4 doctors weighed in
Dr. Ed Friedlander
Pathology 44 years experience
Depends on type: Polymyositis / dermatomyositis kill only if they produce extreme weakness that compromises breathing or results in skin damage, or if the heart muscle is involved or (as often happens) the disease also causes fibrosis of the lungs. Other forms of myositis are even less likely to kill. Your physician can tell you what your diagnosis means to you.

Pneumonia: Most ALS patients who die naturally do so of pneumonia, because they are too weak to cough or breathe deeply which a healthy person does naturally to prevent lung infections.
