Most Likely Dryness: The most likely explanation of vaginal inflammation/pain during intercourse in a menopausal woman is dryness. The simplest solution is the liberal use of a personal lubricant. If that is not helpful, topical estrogen will restore lubrication and vaginal elasticity making intercourse more comfortable again.

Some possibilities: She may have some vaginal dryness & possibly thinning of the vaginal tissue. Do you use a lubricant?
