Have : Him checked before games and make sure trainer knows how to tape ankles.

Get him checked: It's important that you bring him in to a foot and ankle specialist to examine. You don't want him to continue with him being in discomfort, it can cause long term problems if not addressed. Talk also to the school's athletic trainer and many times they can coordinate care with the doctor.

Painful Ankle: When any new sports season starts, there is only to be new pains as various body parts are stressed. Bad pain is sharp and causes limping, and this should be evaluated. The present pain should be addressed with icing of the part for 10-15 minutes three times a day. If the pain is feeling somewhat better in 3 days, keep it up. If the pain plateaus, and does not improve, see a doctor. Dr rich blake.
