Ice: I would recommend rest along with ice massage along the shin. Problem is probably related to overuse or poor shoes suggest ortho exam if symptoms persist to rule out stress fractures.

Physical therapy: First look at your running shoes, make sure they are in good condition. Old worn shoes are often attributed with causing shin splints. Also try to avoid running on harder surfaces. Treatment involves, stretching, using rollers, nsaids and rest. Good luck.
