Evaluate: Liver function tests. The ultrasound is often performed to assess the liver when these tests are abnormal. If you have pain then that would be another reason as the gallbladder is also evaluated.

Abnormals labs?: The most common reasons for liver ultrasound is abnormal liver function tests or abdominal pain. During this exam the gallbladder, bile ducts and pancreas are usually evaluated . Symptoms of disease in these in any of these organs often overlap.
