Why was...: ..It done? That is not too high, particularly if you smoke but I have to wonder why it was ordered. It is not a screening test and often brings more questions than answers. Discuss its implications with the doctor who ordered it. He/she may have a very good reason for it and can clarify its meaning with you.

Smoker?: Cea is a tumor marker, but it is nonspecific and can be elevated in noncancerous conditions. Smokers will have elevated CEA and the range of acceptable values will often include something about smoking. Women with benign gyn problems can also have an elevated cea.
