Yes and yes: Most polyps are benign, even polyps with malignant cells are ok if cells aren't too far into the stalk and removed and followed up. With your positive family history be sure to be followed closely for this to head problems off early.

Yes: Majority of colon polyps are benign when discovered , all colon cancers do not arise from polyps , start as cancers not as polyps.
