Endoscopy?: That would diagnose reflux, esophagitis (candida or otherwise), non-h.Pylori gastritis, and other possible problems.

Mouth pain: Candidate usually shows white patch in the mouth. Could be a reflux disease. Upper endoscopy can sometimes give clues. The other test they could do is esophageal ph monitoring.
