PLMD: Periodic limb movement disorder is a sleep disorder caused by low iron stores in the body caracterized by low serum ferritin. Plmd can lead to frquent awakening during sleep and also can cause sleep maintaince insomnia. Plmd is the second common sleep disorder in children and can lead to parasomnias like sleep waking or/and night terrors. The only way to diagnose plmd is the sleep study.
