What does a swelling in the outer side of the ear signify?

Which part of ear?: The ear itself will not show lymph node enlargement, but will close by. A small infection perhaps, if the lobe is swollen and tender, perhaps a sebaceous cyst. More information is necessary for a reasonable answer.
