Narcotic drug test: Oxycontin is long acting oxycodone. Norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) is hydrocodone. They are both narcotics, but different chemical structure. When doing the drug test, we can distinguish between oxycodone and hydrocodone.

Codeine derivatives: Oxycontin is oxycodone, a powerful oral narcotic. Norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) is hydrocodone plus acetaminophen. Though both are Codeine derivatives, one and/or the other may test positive on a narcotics screening test.
