Why is it important to have a healthy immune system?

Yes: We live in a hostile environment and must fend off all harmful outside invaders to stay healthy. A declining immune function not only makes you more susceptible to infection but to development of cancer as well. A dysfunctional immune system can lead to allergic and/or autoimmune diseases. In fact, the declining immune system is probably a major cause for aging.
