Can still bleed: Your nose can still bleed after cautery. Taking Aspirin or any blood thinners? May need to return to your otolaryngologist and may need further cautery or nasal packing.

A 29-year-old member asked:

Is it normal for nose-picking to cause bleeding?

Common: The number one cause of nasal bleeding is nose picking. It is really a question of timing and care. The bleeding is from trauma to the lining, and is commonly due to sharp or casual introduction of the finger and its relatively sharp nail. If you must pick your nose, doe it slowly, carefully and be conscious of the position of your finger and fingernails.

Nosebleeds in. 2 y/o: Assuming that there are no systemic issues (check with your pediatrician) it can be nose picking at night with long nails . Trim them closely or if all else fails put on mittens at night and use Bacitracin ointment. You can confirm this by seeing an ent.

Many: Disease such as hereditary hemorrhagic telangectasia is one that causes weak nasal blood vessels. Other systemic diseases such as high blood pressure or liver or kidney disease can either raise pressure or lower the chance for the blood to clot. Pregnant women also have nosebleeds, prevention is to keep the nose moist with saline or rhinaris. Pinch the bottom of your nose for 10 min-elevate head.

A 39-year-old member asked:

Why's it the fact that your nose starts to bleed when the air is dry?

Dr. Mark Checcone

Dried out mucosa: The lining of your nose, or mucosa provides moisture to the dry air you breathe to condition the air before it reaches the lungs. When the air is really dry, the mucosa can dry out, crack and bleed causing a nose bleed. Treatment involves pressure to stop the bleeding, followed by moisturizing with nasal saline, saline gel, or ointment. Medical problems can cause chronic bleeds requiring an ent.
