No pain= neuropathy?: A common ankle injury is lateral (or inversion) sprain. If this is what you have, there may not be bruising or pain depending on the degree of sprain (1st or 2nd degree), and whether you have neuropathy (a condition where sensory nerves are impaired and do not function properly). There usually is some amount of pain & swelling. Bruising occurs when you tore a ligament (usually the atf ligament).
