I got melasma while pregnant. is it safe to use prescription retinol and/or hydroquinone while breastfeeding?

No.: Not only are there concerns with baby safety, but also melasma will go away by itself, and you may end up with overbleached spots where it used to be.

Melasma: Retinol is contraindicated while breast feeding. There are no studies to show hydroquinone is safe while breast feeding.

Not: Definitely wouldn't use the retinol, stay out of the sun, use sunscreen. I would wait til finished breast feeding to treat it.

No: Read the package inserts. Avoid using any unnecessary medications while breast feeding. I say no.
