List?: I'm not sure what you mean by your question? There are all kinds of lipoic acid capsules, made by many different companies. For a good review of some that are independently tested, check https://www.Consumerlab.Com/reviews/alpha-lipoic_acid_supplements/alphalipoic/ you may need to subscribe, but $33/year is worth it since you get reviews of many products, not just this one. Good luck.

Antioxidant: Alpha-lipoic acid (ala) is an antioxidant that is made by the body and is found in every cell, where it helps turn glucose into energy. Antioxidants generally neutralize free radicals, which cause inflammation in the body . Studies support the use of al:a for diabetes, but not for weight loss.
A 23-year-old male asked:

Is alpha lipoic acid a good chelating agent for the removal of heavy metals?

Unlikely: Possible excess heavy metal accumulation in the body is hard to study, and there a disinformation industry using phony lab tests. Be careful. Alpha-lipoic acid is being promoted for all kinds of things including heavy metal removal; it failed a clinical trial for mercury miserably in 2003 (j tox). The field is important & cries out for better work.

No proof of safety: Dietary supplements are marketed by manufacturers w/o any requirement by fda or other 3rd party to prove safety and/or effectiveness prior to marketing. In other words, companies are allowed to say whatever they want to convince you to buy their products. Check out 2 recent news articles: http://goo.Gl/bbmdcw (usa today) & http://goo.Gl/uilodl (fda via nbc) re lack of oversight & contamination.

My doc wants me on IV alpa lipoic for a problem I got but Im addicted to a benzo(been taking it for years).Would alpha lipoic put me in withdrawal?

Dont know: Alpha lipoic acid is a vitamin and its use is outside of traditional medical interventions. As such, its interactions are not well studied. I would not anticipate withdrawal However, given the usual reasons this vitamin is given, the likely cause of your issue may be the sedative use. Why not address it directly.
