PMS: Premenstrual tension is common and sometimes very severe it is usually due to fluid retention just before the periods due to hormonal action reduction of fluid intake and even taking a mild diuretic for a few days just before the menses may help.

PMS/PMDD: Premenstrual syndrome and premenstrual dysphoric disorder are 2 possibilities -- they're similar, but pmdd is more severe. The most common emotional/behavioral symptoms are mood swings - but also irritability, sadness, rejection sensitivity, & anxiety. Physical symptoms include bloating, fatigue, breast tenderness, headaches, etc. Your doctor can help by evaluating, and suggesting treatments.
