Great question: Research has been done this in mice and in 6 people. Early results look promising for the stimulation of new cell growth in the hippocampal regions of the brain. More research is needed. I am sure we will be hearing more about this. The downside is its expense and risks and probably not enough neurosurgeons to do the procedures. It is questionable that medocare would be quick to offer coverage

Great potential: This is an area of intense research in neurosurgery. There are some early clinical trials being done at this time (hopkins) that are showing some efficacy. The molecular mechanisms are being investigated in the laboratory and are very promising. Dbs in the treatment of patient's with alzheimer's disease is a topic to be watched.
