CBC: A CBC (and cmp) can be normal with infection -- especially if local (not systemic). A CBC (and cmp) can also be abnormal with a systemic illness including infection. It is just one panel of tests. Labs alone often are not perfect -- that's why contextualization with a history and physical exam are necessary.
