Menstrual cycle: This sounds like the end of your period. Residual discharge is to be expected as the uterine tissue finishes the cycle.

Brown = blood: Blood turns brown if it has been sitting in the back of the vagina for awhile. It sounds like you were just passing the rest of the blood from your period. A slightly "off" period from time to time is very normal. See what happens on the next cycle or two. Birth control methods are great at providing cycle regulation.
