Call ahead: Nitrous will help you relax during your dental appointment and your gag reflex will not bother you. Everything will be much easier for you. But you do need to plan this with your dentist. You will need to have someone drive you. Your dentist will advise you on how long to refrain from before your appointment. Good luck with your appointment.

Nitrous: It is best to discuss before the appointment, so as to get full instruction regarding preop and after procedure steps to take.
