A member asked:

How does contrast substance help a diagnosis in ct-scan?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

All x-ray: Procedures rely on a difference between things that look more like air than bones. Most things in between like intestines, blood vessels, normal organs are in-between. The contrast fills veins and arteries if iv, or GI tract if swallowed or inserted rectally. It helps distinguish normal from abnormal.
