Keeping Styes Away: Styes involve inflammation/infection of the oil-producing glands along the lid margin. Regular lid hygiene reduces the likelihood of styes (warm compresses with gentle massage along the eyelids 2-3x a day.) in recurrent cases, a course of topical or oral antibiotic treatment is often prescribed. A stye can become a chalazion (lid nodule) that may need to be incised/drained by an eye md.
