Warm compresses: Using warm compresses is the main treatment for styes, especially in the early stages (first few weeks). Warm a clean wash rag in fairly hot water and then ring it out (don't burn yourself) which cools it some. Place it over the closed eye for 5-10 minutes a few times a day. It the swelling or tenderness increases, this could be a sign of infection, and medication might be needed.
