I want to know what is the difference between a +5.50 contact lens prescription and a -5.50 prescription?

Significant: The minus power corrects myopia and the plus power corrects hyperopia. They are quite different and cannot be interchanged. If you need one of these, you are very unlikely to need the other and it would given you very uncomfortable vision.
