A member asked:

In the future, will cancer just be another common cold after we find the cure?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not any time soon: Cancer destabilizes the genome of a group of cells. Once the disease has spread beyond what's curable by surgery, most cancers evolve resistance to any therapy we can provide. We may think of cancer as the price that unlucky individuals pay for the ability of the genome to mutate which makes possible the development and adaptability of life. It's inevitably entwined with basic biology. Sorry.
