Treat at prodrome: Some describe a prodrome ( a set of symptoms one has each time right before a cold sore breaks out...For example tingling in the skin). Have prescription antiviral like Valtrex (valacyclovir) on hand from your dermatologist and follow the instructions they give and begin treating at first sign of prodromal symptoms.
