It may help you: Avoid a few calories but only consistent dietary restriction and increasing activity (3500 calories to the pound) will help you lose weight. It may taste good, but it's not magic. Don't get your medical information from friends, tv or the internet.

Doesn't work: You would think that a zero-calorie beverage couldn't make you gain weight, but in fact sugar-free sodas and drinks don't cause any more weight loss than sugary sodas. Tea and coffee may work better. But: sugary drinks are really bad for you and should be avoided. To the best of my knowledge, most sugar-free drinks don't help, don't hurt, but you won't lose weight with them.
