Inconclusive: Some studies suggest benefit but most do not. Probably safe as a supplement for a short time if you're healthy but it has risks including possible prostate problems in men. It may interact with some meds (beta-blockers, digoxin, calcium channel blockers) and may cause blood sugar to go too low in diabetics. The spiny plant (also known as puncture plant) is unsafe to eat.
