A member asked:

When using fentanyl patches, what kind of side effects occur? is hallucinating one of them?

Not usually: Fentanyl patches are like other opiates in that they can cause nausea, vomiting, itching, constipation and sleepiness if the dose is too high. Overdose causes decreased breathing which can result in death. Hallucinations are not generally considered a side effect although some patients sometimes report having weird dreams on opiates.

Yes but very rare: All narcotics can alter perception; visual and auditory hallucinations can occur but are very rare. If this continues, go back to your prescriber for another therapy.
