Many things: Muscles and ribs can have post traumatic and inflammatory changes that can cause pain with breathing, including thoracic facet joint syndrome and intercostal neuralgia lung processes pneumonia, pleuritis (inflammation of lining of lungs, or even neoplasm at edge of lung are possibilities. Sometimes esophageal disease is source.If continues should see physician and at least have chest radiograph.
