Needs evaluation.: Ideally, one should begin with a careful history and physical exam. If spinal compression is suspected, one should ideally undergo imaging of the spine with an MRI which involves no x-ray exposure but excellent imaging of the spine, including the bony structures, the discs and the nerves. The treatment is then based upon the identified problem.
