Menstrual cramps: If you typically have menstrual pain/cramps, then it's not likely to be sign of pregnancy. Some women will report mittelschmerz which is one-sided ovulatory pain/cramp in mid-cycle. Sign of pregnancy is missing your period. Don't know about canada, but in states, you can purchase home pregnancy tests w/o prescription. Use this test if you're late. They're not accurate if you're not late.
