Needs workup: A few percent of folks simply pee out extra protein from standing up. This is ruled in or out by voiding before bedtime and checking the urine voided on first rising. This is actually the most common cause of proteinuria in folks without symptoms. If her bloodwork is even near-normal, she's not in renal failure. Let the workup continue.

Depends.: Proteinuria is abnormal if either present in the first morning urine, or over a certain amount in 24 hours. Other things being normal, it does not mean either present or future renal failure.
