No: Morphine or other narcotics are frequently used as part of a balanced anesthetic technique. Except in extremely high doses, it is not an anesthetic. It can be used to relieve pain and anxiety on minor procedures.

See below: Narcotics cannot replace anesthesia for most surgical procedures. Anesthesia relies on amnesia (no memory of procedure), analgesia (insensate to pain) and muscle relaxation to provide a stable platform for most surgeries. Morphine alone, a narcotic, cannot do this. Talk to your anesthesiologist about your concerns before the procedure.
