?: Not sure what you mean by locking up. You may be simply fatiguing your muscles. If you hit a limit, stop and rest and then resume. You will be more effective doing less reps with breaks in between then powering thru till complete fatigue and max reps every time. There is a role to doing max reps but try doing more intervals for awhile.
