Avoidance: This depends on the individual and how much total exposure he has had. The best way is to avoid the exposure altogether , just tell your friends or co-workers that you are allergic to tobacco smoke. Fortunately, indoor smoking is prohibited in many states now. If your state does not have this law, write your congressman to do something about it or inform your employer of your feeling.

Minimal /avoid it: Second hand smoke doesn't cause cancer but it does increase the frequency of upper respiratory infections.trigger asthma in some & act as a non specific irritant. The same can be said for paint fumes, fragrances from plug ins or perfume. If you are sensitive to smoke, avoid it.
